Bramall Hall's roof restoration work 'well underway'

Restoration work at Bramall Hall is 'well underway', Stockport Council has said.
The project comprises repairs to the roof, drainage, and general future-proofing for the next generations of visitors.
The full course of repairs is expected to last into 2026, however the hall will remain open.
Cllr Helen Foster-Grime - cabinet member for Culture at Stockport Council - recently visited the Hall to see the progress of repairs.
"I’m incredibly impressed by the skill and care the team is applying to preserve the unique architecture and history of this magnificent building", she said.
"This key project will help preserve one of the borough’s cultural gems for many years to come against the increasing challenges of climate change.”
The works cost £1.6m and are being carried out by Resoration Projects.

Visitors to the hall can also see the repairs for themselves, which a council spokesperson described as "a unique opportunity to see conservation in action".
The work is being carried out with "greatest possible care to eliminate every possibility of damage" to the building.
Furthermore, the materials used are as close as possible to those which are currently in place.
This includes the stone and lead in the roof, the brick in the chimney, and the cast iron downpipes - all of it will be as sympathetic with the character of the building as possible, with reclaimed materials being used where available.
Likewise, the contractors would aim to minimise the loss of existing timber elements in the building.

Cllr Foster-Grime added: “Bramall Hall is a vital part of our cultural heritage.
"The overall substantial investment from the council in the restoration ensures the Hall can continue to be enjoyed by residents and visitors alike, safeguarding it for future generations."
Bramall Hall is open every Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 11am to 4.30pm.
