A bomb disposal squad was called to a Stockport street yesterday (Tuesday 17 February) following reports of an 'unexploded' Second World War device.

Officers were called to Schools Hill in Cheadle around 1.30pm, where they taped off the street and carried out a controlled detonation.

Although the controlled detonation did take place, it's unclear whether the device itself was viable, Manchester Evening News reports.

Greater Manchester Police said the area was now safe.
