Friday 8 September will see 'Art Battle', an art competition hosted in Merseyway car park.

In what is to be one of the first large events held in the brutalist icon, 10 artists will be given 30 minutes to create a masterpiece, with the audience deciding the winner.

Describing the event, the organisers said: "We're 10 years old so we are having a party. A party in a park. A carpark. We love an unconventional venue, so it is only fitting that we host our party in a brutalist 1960's concrete multi-storey carpark.

"We'll be joined by some of Stockport's finest independent traders, serving a vast array of food and drink, in what promises to be a spectacular showcase event for Stockport, the reigning Town of Culture."

Last year's event took place in the old Debenham's store, drawing an impressive crowd and showcasing a remarkable display of artistic talent, across a variety of different themes and mediums.

No doubt we can expect an equally exciting event at the Merseyway.
