Art installation of 200 butterflies appears on Stockport street
A humble old wall in Stockport has been transformed into the site of a new art project.
A flutter of 200 ceramic butterflies have been placed on a wall in Hopes Carr, as part of a general project of beautification overseen by GRIT, the artists' studio.
Each butterfly was handcrafted by a Stockport resident - GRIT studios said the artwork was "a wonderful symbol of transformation, even in hidden corners".
The installation sits adjacent to the La Boca to La Stocka project, which was completed last year.
Both of these projects form part of the 'Creative Corridor' scheme. Overseen by GRIT studios, the ultimate aim is to transform both Hopes Carr and Canal Street into a "huge outdoor art gallery".
GRIT is also behind the Scarf My Father Wore mural over in Edgeley.
The artists behind these installations hope that the works will not just beautify the area, but that they will also make art more accessible.
Speaking of the mural in Edgeley, GRIT co-founder John Macaulay said: "I love street art, because it brings art outside the gallery.
"I never went to art galleries when I was a kid, and about 70 percent of people nowadays don't go. So, street art is a great way to bring art to people and get them interested."
