Almost 20km of pipe network to be upgraded in Stockport this year

Stockport will get upgrades to around 20 kilometres of its gas mains network this year.
It's part of a £75m investment across the North West by Cadent, the gas distribution company.
In total, the company will be modernising around 385km of pipe across the region, meaning 2.7 million properties will receive a reliable gas supply for the years to come.
18,744 metres of this will be in Stockport borough areas.
Whilst there could be some disruption as works take place, Cadent says it will work with local authorities and residents to work out what would be the 'least disruptive' times for the upgrades.

Once start dates have been confirmed, letters are sent to nearby properties ahead of the work starting.
Mark Syers, the North West's head of work management at Cadent said: "The majority of homes in the North West rely on gas for central heating and it's our job to make sure they get it, safely and reliably, every minute of every day of the year," said Mark Syers, Head of Work Management (North West), who leads the team delivering Cadent's gas mains upgrade work in the region.
"As our older stock reaches the end of its safe working life, we must replace it.
"These upgrades also mean big environmental gains for the region, as it reduces methane emissions and enables a move to more renewable gases like biomethane. This is essential for a cleaner future – the UK will need energy to come from a range of sources to meet demand and be sustainable."
