The Coffee Block is one of Stockport's best success stories, and one of the reasons why the town is currently enjoying some time in the sun as Greater Manchester's 'place to be'.

Founded in June 2022, this café is emphatically independent and family-run, and within just over a year, has become one of Stockport's most popular coffee houses.

Throughout opening hours, the café does a roaring trade - visitors at any time can count on a bustling atmosphere, with quick and quality service.

What is it, then, that makes Coffee Block so special? Nub News spoke to owner and founder Dave to find out more.

"The main thing that sets us apart from everywhere on the high street is the amazing coffee and the customer service", Dave says. And whilst many other coffee venues may say the same, Coffee Block can justifiably prove it.

Not only is there a string of awards to back up the claim (Made in Stockport award, Taste of Stockport award, and Small Business Sunday winner), but it is self-evident in the way the business is run.

For one, I can certainly vouch for the coffee myself - as, no doubt, can the many regulars. As for the customer service - its quality and warmth is clear everywhere. Baristas and employees not only know many customers by name, but also spend time at tables speaking with them.

This is more than just a place to eat and drink, then. This is a social spot for young and old Stopfordians alike.

"It's extremely important for the community to have a hub", Dave says. "It's also a very diverse customer base. We've got vegan and gluten-free products, we've got teenagers coming in for the iced matchas, we've got elderly customers - all of them will be looked after here, and that's why they keep coming back."

Dave started Coffee Block after spending 13 years working at another coffee company, after which he decided to set out on his own.

"I just wanted to see if I could do it", he says. "To open up a shop with my vision, my aesthetic, and in a high footfall area."

He hand-picked his team, recruiting family members from various generations and other trustworthy employees.

"My team is the best team I've ever worked with", he says. "I wanted to create something not just positive for the customers, but also for the staff. We are a family here."

And thus, Coffee Block was formed. With its fresh food, hand-crafted coffee and wonderful charm, Stockport can be proud to claim it as its own. It is no surprise that the place already has a devoted following.

"Really, we'd like to say thank you to our community", Dave says. "We're very grateful to anybody who has supported us."

You can find Coffee Block at 4-6 Merseyway, Stockport town centre.
