Waterside Hotel and Leisure Club is one of Greater Manchester's best hidden gems.

Despite being a matter of metres away from Cheadle bridge and Manchester Road, it's entirely removed from the hustle and bustle - sequestered in a peaceful wooded river valley along the Mersey.

This idyllic location is home to a multi-million pound gym, swimming pool, hotel, restaurant, and much more - making it the perfect place to escape, indulge and energise.

Since the 1930s, it's been attracting all kinds of visitors; from local customers looking for a place to keep fit, through to jet-setting business-men and -women who won't countenance the idea of staying anywhere else.

And for good reason; Waterside boasts an impressive 4.5 stars on TripAdvisor, making it one of the most highly-rated hotels in Greater Manchester.

Explaining their success, hotel operations manager Kyle Sheridan, and group social media manager John Preston maintain that the winning formula is top-tier service and facilities, combined with a warm community feel.

"People come here and are blown away by the facilities - but they stay for the community", Kyle explains.

"And it really is a community here. We're not just a hotel, and we're not just a gym."

There's certainly a warm vibe - staff and members recognise one another, and there's a really broad range of customers which means you can always find like-minded people to chat to.

But, as Kyle and John explain, there's a hugely impressive range of facilities which keep people coming back.

Find out more about the facilities here, and in the video below.

In the wet section, there's a 25-metre heated pool, thermal suites, a hydrotherapy pool and a steam room.

Elsewhere on-site, there are two large, bright studios for classes like yoga, tai chi, pilates and more, with top-quality instructors.

And that's barely scratching the surface. There's also a huge range of gym rooms with a similarly huge array of equipment; from weights and treadmills through to the latest Technogym Check Scan machines. which measure your body and deduce the perfect workout routine for you.

There's also a ladies-only gym.

The sheer volume of equipment means there's always something new to try, and, further still, you're never waiting around to use machines.

But most importantly, all of these facilities are accessible for everyone. Whilst seasoned gym-goers will be more than catered for at Waterside, there's also a thoroughly welcoming atmosphere for customers with different fitness goals.

If you're an older member who's just looking to stay supple, for example, the equipment is easy to get used to and the atmosphere as a whole is calm and un-intimidating.

As John explains: "Sometimes you might go to a gym and feel uncomfortable - it can feel intense. But with us, it's not intense at all.

"It's very mixed and there's something here for everyone.

"And while other places are downsizing, our gym has an abundance of equipment - we've just had £1 million of new machines."

Kyle adds: "People travel here from far and wide. We get hospital workers and shift staff, but also flexible workers who will come here, workout, and then sit in the cafe with their laptops."

All this is to go without mentioning the world-class restaurant, where the food - in John's words - is 'staggeringly good'.

Delicious dishes are prepared at the on-site restaurant by a team of chefs combining decades of experience, led by a head chef who's been at Waterside for 19 years.

And then there's the hotel - 45 en-suite modern rooms, with a fresh-cooked breakfast and gym access included in the price.

"We get business travellers, weekend visitors, all kinds of customers", Kyle explains. "And we're independent - not a big, corporate chain - so we do things a bit differently."

It's worth bearing in mind if you're a Stockport resident expecting visitors soon - don't act like you weren't aware of a good place to send them!

In all, Waterside is a little self-contained patch of heaven, nestled beside the Mersey. It's got top facilities to keep you healthy, food to keep you sated, and company to keep you happy.

If you're interested in the leisure club, membership starts from £54.95 per month.
