There is not a waking moment when our joints and muscles aren't in use.

Here in Stockport, it might be a hike around the hills of Marple; or maybe negotiating the steep slopes of the Old Town; or perhaps standing up abruptly at Edgeley Park following the latest Louie Barry masterclass.

In any case, the human body comes under a fair degree of duress in its time - it's just as well, then, that there's a local business which has been alleviating such strain for almost 40 years.

Hazel Grove Osteopaths, based at 302 London Road, was established in 1985, and has been caring for joints and muscles ever since.

The practice comprises a talented team of Osteopaths, who between them can deal with any musculoskeletal ailments.

Indeed, far from just specialised treatments for sportspeople, this clinic can offer services for all residents - from young children through to 100-year-olds. And no, that's not an exaggeration; one centenarian customer attributes his continued golfing prowess to his visits to this clinic.

Emily Davies is a Master Osteopath at the practice, with experience working around the world. She talked about the joy of keeping people moving.

"Personally, I love when someone can get back to doing their favourite activities", she said.

"People who love running but haven't been able to in a year, or people who just want to paint or be able to sit and have a cup of tea with friends.

"It's being able to partake in people's self-improvement, and the positive impact we can have not only on people's health, but their mindsets. There is nothing better than a patient returning happier."

It's certainly true that the team can help with a huge range of injuries - large and small. Indeed, whilst some patients are referred by GPs, others come with their own different issues.

"Since Covid we are seeing a large increase in number of desk related injuries, from lack of proper ergonomic desk set up, or decreased activity", Emily said. "Some people don't leave the house all week now.

"Also we have many seasonal injuries; the most common being gardening related. A few I've seen this week though have been from pumpkin picking.

"Soon we'll get into the Christmas related injuries and then the cycle will start again with gardening."

Some patients don't even realise that their ailments can be helped, and often with such ease. It may well be worth a visit, then, even if you're apprehensive about treatment.

As Emily explains: "Osteopathy is a gentle treatment.

"We are highly trained for all kinds of situations and we will always make sure to talk through everything before we even begin, as we find ensuring a patient is relaxed and informed leads to the best outcome for them.

"We will never use any technique unless a patient is informed and happy to proceed."

Haze Grove Osteopaths, then, can get you moving in far more ways than you might imagine.

And what does it mean to have been doing that for so long?

"Being an integral part of the Hazel Grove and Stockport community for 40 years has really helped us figure out what the area needs", Emily said.

"We do our best to help everyone that comes through the door, even if that means signposting them to somewhere that can help. We have a relationship with the local hospitals where we can refer for scans, as well as knowing most of the local GPs personally.

"We love being in Hazel Grove, as we're so close to Stepping Hill Hospital, so we're able to help so many healthcare workers, reducing musculoskeletal sick leave, and keeping them all going."

This immaculate local reputation is borne out by the practice's stellar reviews - over 95 per cent of which are five-star.

There is lots Hazel Grove Osteopaths can do to help you get on the move, then. But how about in the meantime?

"There are so many things throughout our life that can cause or agitate musculoskeletal aches and pains and there is no magic wand for many of them", Emily said.

"The best advice is to try and keep a healthy and active lifestyle, but this can be easily achieved by small regular changes, such as drinking more water, not remaining in one position too long and regularly moving/stretching throughout the day."
