When you think of popular settings for apocalypse books, you probably think of New York, San Francisco, or Tokyo first.

However, a local author has written a book about a disaster that occurs in his hometown of Stockport.

Winston J Smith's book When Your Best Friend Wants to Eat You is set in a post-pandemic Stockport, in which a mysterious new dog food turns the town's dogs against their owners, and the following cover-up by politicians only makes the situation worse.

The author said "I wanted an ordinary typical British town to be representative of all similar conurbations.

"Having grown up in Stockport, I'm more than familiar with all its landmarks, and the characters are amalgamations of people I've encountered."

The book features some famous faces of Stockport as well, with Phil Foden and two members of the Blossoms making appearances.

There is some cursing "to reflect the reality of life in Stockport" as the author put it, and some slapstick gore à la Hot Fuzz, and the book is reportedly "unsuitable for children or politicians".

It may not be for the faint of heart, but if you're wondering whether your street is mentioned, you can find the book on Amazon HERE.
