Many successful TV shows have been filmed in Stockport in recent years, earning the town a nickname as the 'Hollywood of the North'.

Companies that have filmed here include the BBC with Peaky Blinders, ITV with The Bay, Channel 4 with It's a Sin, and Netflix with The Stranger, and more.

Nor does this spate show any signs of slowing down; Stockport Council is part of Creative England's 'Filming in England' partnership, and figures from the partnership show that since January 2018, there have been 197 shoot days in the borough, with an estimated £3.5 million spent on production.

Stockport looks set to grow its filmmaking reputation as well; not only will there be even more original shows coming out of the town in the near future, a few shows that have been previously filmed in Stockport are set for new series.

Toxic Town

This is an upcoming four-part Netflix drama about the 2009 Corby poisonings and the subsequent environmental court case, in which a link between atmospheric toxic waste and birth defects was established for the first time.

The show will star Jodie Whittaker, Robert Carlyle, Rory Kinnear, and Stockport native Aimee Lou Wood.

Filming took place partly in Offerton in September, and a letter was delivered to houses near the filming, which assured residents that the production team were "in no way referring to Stockport being the Toxic Town".

A release date has not been announced for this series.

Everyone Else Burns

This Channel 4 sitcom depicts the Lewis family, who are part of a puritanical Christian sect, and have to navigate modern life under the belief that the world will end in the next 10 years.

The show stars Simon Bird, Kate O'Flynn, Amy James-Kelly, and Harry Conner.

Part of the show was filmed in Heaton Mersey, and was renewed for a second season in May of this year, but filming has not yet commenced and it is not clear if filming will take place in Stockport again.

However, with the location of the Lewis' house being in Heaton Mersey, it seems likely. A release date has not been announced for the second season.

Daddy Issues

This is an upcoming BBC Three odd-couple sitcom about a party-girl who fell pregnant, and her recently divorced, clueless father, ending up living together in a flat in Stockport.

This show will also star Aimee Lou wood, as well as David Morrissey and Susan Lynch.

Unlike the other shows on this list, Daddy Issues is actually set in Stockport, and will likely make reference to real life parts of the town as well as showing them. Filming began on 11 December, so it remains to be seen exactly what parts of Stockport will feature in the show.

A release date has not been announced for the series.

Dodger

This BBC show is set in 1830s London, and centres around the notorious Artful Dodger from Charles Dickens' famous novel Oliver Twist. The series is about the Dodger's exploits as part of Fagin's gang, and takes place before the events of the book.

It features Billy Jenkins in the title role, as well as Christopher Eccleston and Saira Choudhry.

The show has two series, and was partly filmed in and around the marketplace. The BBC has also commissioned a Christmas special for this year, which will air on Christmas Day on BBC One.
