Stockport is home to a thriving array of vegan-friendly cafes and restaurants, dotted throughout the town centre and the wider Stockport borough.

With a mixture of 100% vegan and vegan-friendly eateries, there is something here for everyone.

Hillgate Cakery

Situated at 22 Lower Hillgate, Stockport, close to Robinson's Brewery, Hillgate Cakery is a quaint, 100% vegan cakery and cafe.

Doubling as a vegan food shop, it is also a great place to stock up on food essentials from smaller vegan brands. Hillgate Cakery offers a wide range of drinks options, including coffee, vegan hot chocolate, milkshakes, and more.

Living up to its name, it supplies an impressive array of vegan cakes and sweet treats. To suit a more savoury tooth, it also stocks a range of pasties, vegan calzone, and homemade bagels. The cakery also caters for special occasions and celebrations, with an impressive portfolio of vegan cakes and cupcakes that can be personalised on request.

Hillgate Cakery is open Wednesday to Saturday, 10.30am-5pm, and Sundays, 11am-4pm.

The Produce Hall

Paying homage to its long history as a food market, The Produce Hall has been re-imagined for the 21st century, with a large seating area lined by a wide variety of food stalls, all providing their own tasty vegan options.

It is home to the likes of Thief Street, offering vegan doner and Korean fritters, and Kambuja, who provide a mix of Cambodian and ASEAN dishes, most of which can be made vegan. Other traders include Kneadful Things Pizza, Poco Mas Tapas, Greek-inspired Odysea and Mamma G's Carribbean Soul Food.

The Produce Hall is open from 11am to 10pm on Sundays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, with kitchens closing at 9pm. On Fridays and Saturdays, the hall is open 11am-11pm, with kitchens closing at 9:30 pm. You can find The Produce Hall opposite the Stockport Market Hall, at 24A Market Place, Stockport.

The Mekong Cat:

The Mekong Cat offers a full vegan menu alongside its main menu, so there is something to suit the whole family. The vegan menu offers a wide variety of starters and small plates, noodles, rice plates, and a vegan Bahn Mi.

The Mekong Cat aims to provide authentic Asian food, focusing on countries which the Mekong River runs through. Born in Southeast Asia, Owner and Head Chef Y Sok opened The Mekong Cat with the aim of bringing authentic and 'unapologetic' Southeast Asian food to the heart of Stockport. The Mekong Cat is open 12pm-9pm Tuesday to Sunday, and you can find them at 47 Lower Hillgate, Stockport.

Goodness Foods:

Goodness Foods is great for a quick bite to eat, with vegan sandwich options, alongside a vegan sausage roll and even a vegan croissant! Not only do they provide some hard-to-come-by vegan pastry options, but the cafe also doubles as an organic food shop.

There, you can buy those all important legumes, beans and pulses, among other organic vegan products. You can pop into Goodness Foods at Unit 6, Warren Street, Stockport, and it is open 9am-6pm seven days a week.

And for those of you who wish to venture further afield…

 Otto Vegan Empire, Bramhall:

Otto Vegan Empire boasts an impressive 100% vegan menu. Providing a vegan Mancunian's take on traditional Middle Eastern dishes, their food is packed full of grains, legumes and spices, with an emphasis on providing healthy vegan food.

The menu includes much loved Middle Eastern dishes such as Dhal, veggie Kofta, and a Kobeda kebab, alongside other traditional dishes. They also boast a separate 'Afternoon Samoons' menu providing a modern take on Middle Eastern sandwiches, and a Sunday menu, which includes many of their weekly dishes, alongside an impressive vegan Sunday roast, complete with vegan gravy and a vegan yorkshire pudding.

You can find Otto in the loft of the Crown and Conspirator pub at 26A Bramhall Lane South, Bramhall village. Just head up the colourful stairs on the side of the building! Otto Vegan Empire is open Wednesday to Sunday, 12pm-11pm, with food served until 9pm, and is open 12pm-7pm on Sundays.

Bhaji Pala, Gatley:

Situated on 2 Old Hall Road, Gatley, Bhaji Pala provides a wide array of 100% vegan Western Indian and Indo-Chinese dishes. The Bhaji Pala team are committed to maintaining the authenticity of their Western Indian cooking, while adapting their recipes to suit a vegan diet.

Choose from a wide array of options, including traditional Tandoori and Biryani dishes, alongside Indo-Chinese and street food dishes. Every Sunday, from 12pm to 4pm, Bhaji Pala also offers an unlimited Dosa buffet! The restaurant is open 10am-9pm on Sundays, 10am-10pm Monday-Thursday, and 10am-11pm on Fridays and Saturdays.

Chai Village, Romiley:

At 59 Compstall Road, Romiley, vegetarian cafe Chai Village offers plenty of tasty vegan options. As well as coffee, milkshakes, smoothies, and lassi, Chai Village also boasts a selection of vegan chai frappuccinos made from their very own authentic chai spices.

"The cafe offers a wide range of breakfast and brunch options, including a 'full Indian breakfast' and vegan pancakes. Their Indian street food selection also makes Chai Village an ideal vegan lunch spot. Chai Village is open Tuesday to Friday, 9am till 5pm, and Saturday, 10am-4pm.
