As the darker autumn days draw in, leading UK car-seller, Motor Match, has shared four key measures to ensure that drivers are keeping their vehicles safe from theft.

Speaking on the matter, Motor Match said: "Car theft tactics are always evolving, and merely locking your doors is rarely enough to deter the most committed thief.

"And with concerning figures revealing that a car in the UK is stolen on average every 10 minutes, now is a better time than ever to take some proactive measures for drivers' peace of mind."

Concerning figures show that a car is stolen every 10 minutes in the UK (Swansway Motor Group).

The four measures shared include:

  • Fight tech with tech - Although an ever-popular choice for UK drivers, cars with keyless technology are also twice as likely to be stolen since thieves can pick up and hijack the signal of your fob. Motor Match suggests investing in a signal-blocking pouch/box to prevent this malicious interception and ensure that cars remain secure.
  • GPS Tracking - Though this doesn't stop from being stolen in the first place, Motor Match notes that it does allow you to track it in real time in the event of theft. In fact, some figures put the recovery rate with a high-quality GPS tracker at around 95%, especially those with advanced features like geofencing and smartphone integration.
  • Steering wheel locks - A tried and true deterrent against thieves, a steering wheel lock makes it difficult for would-be thieves to drive a car away, and may even deter a potential theft from taking place at all.
  • Alarm system - A reliable car alarm system goes a long way to safeguarding your car, especially with more advanced features such as motion sensors and remote control that suit users' needs more specifically.

"To many people their vehicle is part of the family, reliably taking them where they need to go on any given day, so it's only second nature to want to protect this important asset as much as possible", Motor Match added.

"From installing dependable alarms, GPS trackers and off-putting wheel locks, to blocking your key fob from malicious interception, there are plenty of tools in drivers' arsenals to protect themselves from bad actors.
