Heald Green Day of Action
1-10 Cross Road, Heald Green
Community Events
18 Apr 2026
Sunday 19 April
Join us on Saturday 18 April for a free and slow-paced community walk through Heald Green to show how much our green spaces matter and why they deserve stronger protection.
We will meet from 10:45 am at the top end of Cross Road (the continuation of Outwood Road near Bolshaw) for a departure at 11 am. Bring family, friends, and dogs and feel free to make placards. It's a chance to spend time together, connect with like-minded neighbours, and take part in a shared moment that reflects what these spaces mean to our community.
Heald Green's fields and green spaces provide well-used walking routes, support nature and wildlife and create places where people can meet, play sport, and spend quality time outdoors. Almost all are now being considered for housing development. in the draft local plan.
There is a recognised need for more affordable housing. Residents are asking how those needs will be met, and how future development will meet affordability, size, infrastructure, and access needs, while protecting existing green space.
We are not walking in isolation. This event forms part of a national Day of Action for Nature, Parks and Green Spaces, with nearly 200 groups and communities across the UK taking part at the same time. Together, these events send a clear signal to Downing Street and Local Planning Authorities that development must be carefully planned, with the right homes in the right places.
If you can join us, we would love to see you there. If you can't make it on the day, you can still take part by sharing your support online and contacting Downing Street directly. Tools are available here https://vote-for-nature.org/write-to-pm
We also encourage you to share photos and messages across social media using the hashtags #DayOfAction #NatureDayOfAction #HealdGreen #CommunityPlanningAlliance #VoteForNature
The Day of Action is organised by the Community Planning Alliance, supported by the CIEEM, the National Federation of Parks and Green Spaces, the Badger Trust, the Bat Conservation Trust, and CPRE.
