With festival season officially under way, two care homes in Stockport are welcoming the community for a fun-filled day of food and celebration.

This August, Care UK's Abney Court and Ladybrook Manor will open their doors to families and neighbours for a series of food festivals, inviting guests to tuck in and celebrate the nation's shared love of great cuisine, community and connection.

On Thursday 6^th August, from 2pm-4pm, the team at Abney Court will take visitors back in time with a menu inspired by residents' favourite childhood meals. Dishes on offer will include a host of local and international flavours specially prepared by the home's chef.

Meanwhile, Ladybrook Manor will take locals on a tasting tour around the world on Thursday 6^th August, from 2.30pm-4.30pm. The event will feature food stalls, which will bring residents' stories to life by serving up some of their favourite recipes.

Resident Stephanie, who is looking forward to reliving the food from her childhood, said: "I worked in a Ukrainian deli from the age of 13 and remember sharing wonderful homemade bread with my mother."

The events are part of the 'A Taste of Home' initiative, which will see Care UK homes across the country host foodie-themed celebrations and showcase what life in a care home is really like.

Each festival will showcase sustainable, community-focused initiatives while celebrating the diversity and creativity within the homes, from residents' favourite recipes and traditional dishes to seasonal menus featuring locally sourced ingredients.
