Stockport Rugby Club are through to the Papa John's Cup semi-final after a 49-12 win over Cleckeaton.

"An awesome display of attacking rugby dominated a desperate Cleckeaton side who couldn't cope with our pace and power", said the club in a post on social media.

The victory means Stockport will face local rivals Macclesfield from pool one of the regional plate in a home game on Saturday 29 April, with a 3pm kick off.

The winners will play at the final of the Papa John's cup on May 6 at Saracens StoneX stadium.

The club gave special mention to colt Joe Rushton for a 'cracking performance' in his first team debut.

The match report on the club's website described how "Port were straight out of the blocks and a cracking run from Rory Austin gave the home side an attacking line-out after a high tackle".

The report goes on to say: "Cleckheaton couldn't cope with Port's destructive driving maul..."

It also describes avoiding, for the most part, Cleckheaton's "dark arts and rough approach".
