Woodbank Park is set for a festive treat this December, as it prepares for a 'Santa Dash' - a one mile fun featuring up to 300 Santas.

Forming part of the Town of Culture programme, this event is open to everybody (so long as they wear a Santa hat!). It takes place from 11am on Saturday 9 December, along the flat trails around Woodbank Park, making it suitable for families and wheelchair users.

Hosted by Stockport Harriers, the event also features a raffle, and some high-profile guests - including Stockport County's Vernon Bear!

Participants will be given a Santa hat if they don't already have one. Anybody who wants to wear a full St Nicholas suit is encouraged to do so!

Runners will also receive a mince pie and a certificate. They can also count on a hot dog stand and an atmosphere of festive cheer in the Woodbank Park stadium.

Councillor Frankie Singleton, Cabinet Member for Communities, Culture and Sport, said: "The Town of Culture Santa Dash is a great way for the people of Stockport to come together young and old. The mile course will hopefully attract a wide range of people who wouldn't normally join a race to celebrate moving in a fun and lively way, like the Stockport Moves event but this time with a Christmas twist."

Dave Hulley, Chair of Stockport Harriers & AC, added: "Stockport Harriers are proud to be hosting this event and supporting the whole community to get moving together. We enjoy giving people the opportunity to take part in running and athletics at any level, from total beginners, right through to elite runners. Taking part in the Santa Dash will give a wide range of people the opportunity to complete a mile race with a final sprint on the track, just like the pros."

If you would like to attend this event, you must register for attendance, as there is no admittance on the day.

At the time of writing, there are 50 places left. You can register HERE.
