Romiley's Forum Theatre will re-open to the public from this evening (Thursday 20 June), following a long period of closure.

The curtain will be raised once again on the Forum stage at 7.30pm, with a performance of the teen edition of "Everybody's Talking About Jamie".

The building was forced to close in September last year following revised guidance on RAAC. However, in the ensuing period, the roof area which contained the RAAC has been reinforced. It means that all public areas of the building are now safe to use.

The theatre is operated by NK Theatre Arts, a theatre company for members of all ages.

With the building now repaired, NK has set out a full schedule of all the events coming soon. In the pipeline are shows from Aled Jones, Shaun Ryder, and Kerry Ellis. See the full schedule HERE.

Company manager Darren Stannage said of the re-opening: "It has been an incredibly long road, but we are finally ready to welcome patrons back to the Forum Theatre.

"The determination of everyone involved throughout the process to make the theatre safe again has just been immense, and we are so grateful for the support that we have received. [...]

"So many local dance schools and performing arts organisations will be able to take to the stage once again, and we also have tribute bands, cabaret nights, and household names performing here over the coming months."

Kerry Day, artistic director of NK Theatre Arts, said the team was 'thrilled' to be re-opening the theatre.

In a statement on social media, she said: "The Forum has been closed for almost a year and it has been an extremely hard time for staff, tutors, parents and members.

"At last we are safely home. [...] Home is how we feel about our theatre, in the very centre of Romiley. We could not have done this without your encouragement and support.

"It has been humbling to realise just how much we mean to so many."

Repairs to the theatre were funded by Stockport Council - which owns the building - whilst the work itself was undertaken by Robertson Construction.
