Residents are encouraged by Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service to give their views on plans for a new fire station on King Street West.

A drop in session will run tomorrow (13 June) from 4.30-7pm at the current fire station on the same site.

Residents can also submit their views by other means until 20 June, when public consultation closes. This can be done via an online survey, by email, or through a number of other methods explained HERE.

Proposals for the new station will soon be submitted to the Stockport planning team, with aims to build it 'over the next year'.

The new station will uphold the same level of service to local communities in Stockport - both response times and the number of engines will neither increase nor decrease.

It comes as part of a £38 million investment, made to "ensure that stations across Greater Manchester remain fit for purpose and enable GMFRS to provide the best possible service to residents". Other new builds will take place in Whitefield (Bury) and Blackley as part of the investment.

The new station will include state-of-the-art facilities, as well as a room which local community groups and organisations can use.

The station will also use sustainable heating and light systems, which will contribute to Greater Manchester's goal of carbon neutrality by 2038.

Residents are encouraged to submit views, as GMFRS emphasises that public consultation has already resulted in modification of plans for the Whitefield station.

Chief fire officer David Russel said: "This is a chance for residents and businesses in Stockport to tell us their priorities for the future of their community fire station.

"Every day our firefighters go to work right in the heart of the communities that we serve, so we have a responsibility to ensure that those facilities are of the highest quality, and support crews to respond rapidly and professionally to a wide variety of incidents.

"We had really positive engagement from local communities in Blackley and Whitefield when we outlined the first phase of fire station rebuilds in our redevelopment programme, and their feedback has helped shape plans in those places. I would encourage anyone in Stockport to get involved and tell us what you want to see from this major investment in our capabilities."

Deputy Mayor of Greater Manchester Kate Green said: "People across Greater Manchester deserve the very best service that our firefighters can deliver, and these plans are all about giving them the facilities and the resources to get on with the job of protecting communities in Stockport."
