Gill Tress is celebrating 40 years at Stockport-based print business SF Taylor. Now a business services director, Gill started in 1983 and has since witnessed 'amazing' transformations at the company.
SF Taylor itself is approaching its 100-year anniversary, after its foundation in 1926. One of the company's main clients is the NHS - SF Taylor serves 60 NHS Trusts across the UK.
Gill's time at the company has encompassed nine prime ministers, the re-unification of Germany, the dissolution of the USSR, and the formation of 34 countries. She has also seen significant changes, both within the company and socially.
"When I began, there was just one woman in a management position", Gill says. "The print industry, like many sectors in the 80s, was male-dominated. Witnessing the complete transformation of our workforce, from the central management team to the directors, into a more diverse and inclusive team has been a privilege".
She adds: "When I began my career as an office junior in 1983, our client base was much smaller compared to our current roster. Most companies didn't even use computers at this time and we did everything manually. Obviously, we've seen significant changes since then! It's been amazing to witness the transformation, innovation and growth."
Gill also spoke about her legacy in the role: "We have always found importance in creating a rich and strong connection within our community. Engaging in community initiatives and contributing to local charities has been a growing tradition over the past 40 years. As a Stockport resident, this holds a personal significance for me."
SF Taylor's managing director describes Gill as "an invaluable source of wisdom, insight, and friendship".
Gill concludes: "After 40 years of service, I still come to work with a smile! Every day is still a learning experience, and my colleagues are what make this a truly special place to work. Here's to the next 40 years!"
